Some Wichitans will have the opportunity to meet with the candidates for Wichita Falls police chief at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Sheppard Ballroom of the Delta Hotel, 306 Travis Street.
The event is billed as a “Stakeholders Meet and Greet.”
City spokesman Chris Horgen said community stakeholders includes citizens.
The meeting was posted on the city’s website as a “Notice of Quorum of the Wichita Falls City Council for Social Event.”
Texas law requires that public notice be posted when a quorum of council members get together.
The notice said, “No Council action will be taken, no deliberations will be held, and no Council business will be conducted.”
The city announced July 10 officials had narrowed the search for a new chief to four finalists, including captains Jonathan Lindsey and Kevin Folmar of the Wichita Falls Police Department, Assistant Chief Victor Humphrey of Carrolton and Chief Donald Miller of Burkburnett.
City Manager Jeffrey Jenkins has said he will make his choice for a new police chief for the City Council to approve at an Aug. 18 or Sept. 1 meeting.
The search for a new chief became necessary when longtime Chief Manuel Borrego left the department abruptly on Feb. 20 in the wake of an arrest incident that led to the firing and criminal indictment of one officer and resignation of another.
