A driver died in a single-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Hutchinson County, authorities said.
According to a preliminary investigation, Tommy Neil Powell, 70, of Borger was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado south on Old Stinnett Highway around 1:20 p.m. July 13, when for an unknown reason the pickup traveled off the road, entered the east ditch, and struck the back of a parked construction dump truck.
Powell was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hutchinson County Justice of the Peace.
Road conditions were dry and clear in the 45 mph zone at the time of the crash, which was investigated by Texas Highway Patrol.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the investigation remains ongoing.
