On Monday, Longhorns softball continued reshaping its roster with another national title on its mind. Their latest addition is talented shortstop Isa Torres, who was one of the top players in the portal. The former Seminole is poised for another big year and should be a vital piece to the Longhorns’ offense.
During the 2025 campaign, the Texas native posted a .530 batting average while driving in 56 runs which was one short of her career high. The newest Longhorn also showed some power with 44 extra base hits including a career-high 21 doubles. While Torres was a hits machine, her success came as no surprise.
In three years with Florida State, Torres recorded 261 hits in 175 games. From the moment she set foot on campus, the Georgetown High shortstop was one of the best players in the nation. While her statistics speak for themselves, Torres has added plenty of hardware to her trophy case while serving as a key spark for one of the top teams in the ACC.
With Torres officially in the mix, the Longhorns are getting a player who holds the NCAA record for most consecutive hits with 16. During her time as a Seminole, Torres was named the 2026 ACC Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year. She was also named a top 10 Finalist for the 2025 USA Softball National Player of the Year award. If Torres can build on her success, then the Texas offense will be in good hands.
Although more changes could be on the horizon, the Longhorns’ infield already looks like a strength. Along with Torres, Texas will also have Vivianna Martinez and Katie Stewart, who set the single-season school record with 31 home runs in 2026. That trio should provide fans with plenty of unforgettable moments.
For Texas, the focus is now on finding more talent as players enter the portal. They have already crossed off one of their biggest needs with the addition of Torres, and they are far from done.
