STAAR results for high school-level end-of-course exams were released earlier, with schools showing growth between spring 2025 and spring 2026.

The state categorizes performance into four categories: did not meet, approaches, meets and masters grade level.

Parents of third graders who scored in the “did not meet grade level” category for reading should be aware of the state’s Parent Access to Supplemental Supports program, which offers $400 grants covering the cost of approved online tutoring services. Applications for the program will open in the fall.

Here’s what the results show for Corpus Christi-area school districts:

In many cases, Corpus Christi-area spring testers performed better in reading than math.

In the Corpus Christi Independent School District, the largest school district in the region, 33% of third graders tested did not meet grade level in math this spring. In seventh grade, 44% did not meet grade level in math. The best math performance was in fifth grade, where only 22% did not meet grade level.

In reading, 18% of Corpus Christi ISD fifth and eighth graders tested did not meet grade level. In sixth grade, 29% didn’t meet grade level.

The West Oso Independent School District had some of the highest percentages of students not meeting grade level in math and reading among Corpus Christi-area districts.

Groups with some of the highest percentages of students scoring in the masters category in the Corpus Christi area in math include London Independent School District fourth and eighth graders, Gregory-Portland Independent School District fourth graders and Flour Bluff Independent School District fourth graders. More than 30% of these student groups scored in the masters category.

London ISD excelled in middle school reading, with between 46% and 59% of fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders scoring in the masters category.

More detailed information about school and district-level performance is available online through the Texas Education Agency’s Texas Assessment Research Portal.

In a future article, the Caller-Times will dive deeper into how results have changed since last year.
