The New York Giants haven’t won the NFC East since 2011, but they may not be the divisional doormats much longer if things go their way over the next 24 hours or so.
The team is hosting ex-Ravens head coach John Harbaugh on Wednesday, interviewing the 63-year-old for their current top job opening, with some reports already saying that Big Blue intends to not let him leave the building until a deal is finalized.
Giants executives reportedly met with Harbaugh at his home last weekend, and team co-owner Steve Tisch’s private plane was used to fly to Baltimore on Wednesday to bring Harbaugh to the team facility.
Harbaugh’s hiring would immediately see the Giants’ stock skyrocket and make them legitimate contenders in the East in 2026.
Sure, the Super Bowl XLVII-winning coach would have rising star quarterback Jaxson Dart and soon-to-be-healthy wide receiver Malik Nabers as the centerpiece of his offensive attack. He’d also have a defense anchored by the likes of Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and Abdul Carter.
But Harbaugh would also walk into the job with the tantalizing promise of the No. 5 overall draft pick this spring and then a second-round choice that still falls within the top 40. Add a fourth-rounder, a fifth-rounder, and three sixth-round selections, and there’s a chance to really re-stock the cupboards in East Rutherford.
But then there’s Harbaugh’s established dominance over the NFC East for the Giants’ divisional foes to consider. In his 18 years in Baltimore, Harbaugh and the Ravens went a cumulative 10-5 against the Cowboys, Eagles, and Commanders in the regular season. That’s a .667 winning percentage that’s even better than his current career mark of .614.
Harbaugh has gone 3-2 against Philadelphia and Washington and is 4-1 lifetime versus Dallas. His 180 career wins as head coach put him 14th on the all-time list, despite an 8-9 season in 2025 that saw the Ravens miss the playoffs on a failed field goal attempt on the final play of the regular season.
And don’t forget that Harbaugh has longstanding familiarity with the teams of the NFC East, dating back to his 10-year stint (1998-2007) with the Eagles as special teams coordinator and then defensive backs coach.
The Giants now appear to be making a serious run at landing Harbaugh’s services, with former head coaches Brian Daboll and Tom Coughlin and even two-time Super Bowl winner Eli Manning apparently reaching out to Harbaugh to make sales pitches.
The Giants may not be putting all their eggs in Harbaugh’s basket, however. The team has also met with former Browns coach Kevin Stefanski and is said to have scheduled an interview with former Cowboys and Packers coach Mike McCarthy.
Harbaugh is said to also be entertaining other offers, too, supposedly set to interview with Tennessee and Atlanta later in the week.
