Fresh Faces On The Forty: Transfer PG Isaiah Johnson brings scoring

Sean Miller and the Longhorns men’s basketball program are coming off a strong Year One, including a run to the Sweet 16. Despite the season coming to an end, the momentum didn’t slow down. The Longhorns have signed an elite transfer portal and high school recruiting class, building remarkable momentum heading into next season. It’s time to start breaking down the new faces on the roster, starting with an elite perimeter scorer coming in from Boulder.

2025 Stats: 16.9 PPG, 3 APG, 1 STL, 37.8% 3-point shooting

Isaiah Johnson was the first addition to the portal class for Miller and company and it’s a big one. With Jordan Pope, Tramon Mark and Chendall Weaver walking out the door, the backcourt needed help. Johnson will not only be an immediate starter but could lead the way scoring next season. He averaged nearly 17 PPG for the Buffaloes last season and still has room to grow.

Johnson’s freshman season with Colorado was special, including a 27-point performance against BYU and 28 points against Arizona. He had just one game in Big 12 play where he scored under 10 points and only one game where he played less than 30 minutes. His ability to score at every level of the defense makes him remarkably tough to fully slow down. This will not only help the Longhorn offense not have major dry spells but will open opportunities for the rest of the team.

This is not the highest rated player Sean Miller added(David Punch coming tomorrow) but he could be the most valuable. His ability to open space on the floor, shoot the three and share the ball could make him the “maestro” of the Texas offense. It’s clear why Miller zeroed in on Johnson early and locked him into the class. He’ll likely be one of the leaders on and off the floor for the Longhorns next season.
