On Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., the free come-and-go event will start with an official welcome and ribbon cutting, a media release said. Following that will be the dedication of a new sculpture by Texas artist KT Taylor, “Dedication of Inspiration Takes Flight.”

Glass artist Carlyn Ray’s hanging piece “Gathered Radiance” will be debuted at the new home of the Abilene Public Library. The art is made from hundreds of blown-glass pieces, as well as those decorated by Abilenians.

Those in search of nostalgia won’t be disappointed. Owen Hall, the restored original school auditorium and Heritage Event Center, the original gymnasium, will be available for exploration.

Spark Science Center will offer free 45-minute self-guided tours. But as there are a limited number of visitors allowed each hour on the tour, reservations are required.

Available time slots will be between 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Reservations will be taken until 5 p.m. May 15 and can be made online by visiting the Grace Museum website at thegracemuseum.org/event/ssc-grand-opening.
