As the countdown to Texas football continues, it’s time to breakdown the depth chart for the most important position for the Longhorns: the offensive line. That unit left much to be desired last season, forcing Texas to add multiple transfer OL. Coming out of spring, it looks like Texas has found their starting five but the depth remains a relative question.
Here’s how the group shakes out in my eyes:
Starters(From LT to RT): Trevor Goosby, Laurence Seymore, Connor Robertson, Brandon Baker, Melvin Siani
This is the unit that’ll trot out there in Week One. Goosby leads the way at LT, heading into an all-important season. Laurence Seymore enters from Western Kentucky and slots in at LG. Connor Robertson is back at center after closing the 2025 season strong. Brandon Baker is moving inside after starting at RT last season, a move he’s taking too it seems. Finally, Wake Forest transfer Melvin Siani bookends the starting unit at RT. He brings top-tier pass protection and first round NFL upside.
This unit is a considerable upgrade from last year on paper. Goosby was great last season and, if healthy, should live up to that level once again. Seymore should be a major upgrade from the LG situation a year ago. Robertson and Baker can build off strong finishes to 2025 and Siani raises the ceiling of this group considerably. This unit, if healthy, should give Texas a National Championship-level unit. We’ll find out without question in Week Two when Ohio State comes to town.
Needed Contributors: Dylan Sikorski, Jaydon Chatman, Andre Cojoe OR Jordan Coleman
To me, you need eight “playable” offensive lineman to win a championship. It’s remarkably unlikely Texas avoids injuries from start to finish up front and others will have to give major reps. Starting on the outside, if you lose Goosby or Siani for a game even, I believe Andre Cojoe and Jordan Coleman need to be able to step in. Both seem to be having a strong offseason, with Coleman taking major leaps forward.
For me, it starts with Dylan Sikorski, the Oregon State transfer, on the interior. I believe he needs to be ready to step up if Baker or Seymore go down/struggle early on. Beyond him, Jaydon Chatman is the swiss-army knife of the group. He can play at offensive tackle or guard this season, but I expect him to be used on the interior if needed. He provides a great backstop for the unit as a whole.
This trio could very well decide if Texas wins a National Championship or not. One or multiple of them will be called on in big moments and will need to deliver if Texas is going to have a championship-level offensive line.
Depth Pieces: John Turntine, Jonte Newman, Nicholas Robertson, Paris Patterson, Jackson Christian, Devin Coleman, Kaden Scherer
Many of these guys are having strong offseasons but ideally, they are not needed during this season. The freshman, John Turntine, Nicholas Robertson and Kaden Scherer, could factor into the picture in 2027 but are unlikely to get many, if any, reps this season. Devin Coleman, Paris Patterson, Jonte Newman and Jackson Christian have had strong offseasons, but are likely longer down the list. However, Christian seems to have carved out the backup center role behind Roberston.
