The high school cross country season may be over, but Canyon’s girls team is still reeling in awards.
After the Lady Eagles’ claimed their second consecutive Class 4A state title, head coach Ray Baca and senior standout Addyson Bristow were honored by the Texas Girls Coaches Association on Thursday, Dec. 18.
Baca, who coached Canyon to its 13th championship in program history in 2025, was honored as the Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year for Classes 1A-4A, while Bristow earned Girls Cross Country Athlete of the Year in the TGCA’s fall sports awards.
The TGCA’s fall honors recognize one athlete and one coach in water polo and one coach in team tennis, as well as two coaches and two athletes from both volleyball and cross country. The latter two sports are divided into Class 1A-4A, and Class 5A-6A for awards.
Bristow, a senior, won her third consecutive individual state championship with a time of 10 minutes, 39.7 seconds at the two-mile course in Round Rock. Bristow’s impressive senior season also included a first-place finish at the prestigious Hoka McNeil Invitational.
With Bristow’s senior cross country season in the rear view mirror, the defending Class 4A 800-meter and 1,600-meter state champion will look to find similar success on the track in 2026.
Bristow also helped the Lady Eagles to a UIL title in the 1,600-meter relay in 2025.
