Three-star athlete commits to Texas Tech

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have made another addition to their 2027 recruiting class, securing a commitment from three-star athlete Zayden Smith, who announced the news on social media.

Texas Tech worked quickly to land Smith, who is from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. They only extended him a scholarship offer on June 8, hosting him on an official visit this weekend and getting his commitment while he was in Lubbock.

First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity. After much prayer, consideration, and conversations with my family, I am excited to announce that I am officially committed to Texas Tech University! Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has supported me along the way. The work is just beginning.

Smith is ranked as the No. 627 overall player and No. 39 athlete in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 18 player from Pennsylvania.

He was productive on both sides of the ball for Cumberland Valley as a junior, playing wide receiver and safety. He caught 36 passes for 442 yards and seven touchdowns. He recorded 41 tackles and four interceptions on defense.

Smith is Texas Tech’s 17th commitment overall and the ninth of June. The group is ranked 7th-best in the country and 1st in the Big 12 by 247Sports. Twelve of their commits are four or five-star prospects, including No. 1 overall recruit Jalen Brewster.
