Longhorns softball coaching staff named the best in nation

While the college softball season is over, the Longhorns are still making national headlines. On Thursday, the Longhorns’ coaching staff was named the ATEC/NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year. It marked the second straight year the program won the honor and the third time in program history.

The honor comes as no surprise, as just a few weeks ago, the Longhorns won their second straight national title. Texas finished the regular season with a 53-12 record and thrived in conference play. Their success continued into the postseason and ended in confetti after they swept Texas Tech in the College World Series.

Although the Longhorns made history by winning a title, head coach Mike White also helped his players take their game to another level. The trio of Reese Atwood, Teagan Kavan, and Katie Stewart was named NFCA Second-Team All-Americans. Atwood and Ashton Maloney also became the first Longhorns to win NFCA Gold Glove awards. It was an example of just how good the coaching staff has been.

Additionally, Texas set a single-season program record with 99 home runs. They also finished the season with a .335 team batting average, which was the third-best in program history. In conference play, they were a force to be reckoned with as they hit .318 against SEC teams and led the league in hits.

Now that the 2026 season is in the books, White and his coaching staff have been busy setting the program up for success. In the transfer portal, they have improved the offense by adding former Florida State star Isa Torres. She is one of the best hitters in the nation and should help make the lineup even better.

As long as White and his staff continue to get the best out of their players, the awards should continue to roll in as long as they are in the Forty Acres.
