The highest recorded wind gust in central Ohio during the March 13 windstorm that knocked out power for over 100,000 Ohioans was over 70 mph, according to data from the National Weather Service.
At the height of the March 13 windstorm, 258,000 AEP customers were without power in Ohio, the company said. At least 700 Franklin County AEP customers remained without power through the weekend.

The NWS in Wilmington said it did not have data available to determine whether any wind records were broken March 13. The NWS publishes daily and monthly records for temperature and precipitation, but not wind speeds.
The NWS’ Wilmington office released highest wind reports for numerous locations across its forecast area, which includes parts of Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. The wind speeds were “collected from a variety of sources with varying equipment and exposures,” including volunteer weather observers, the NWS noted.
The highest wind speed recorded by the Wilmington forecast office happened in Dayton. At 1:15 p.m. March 13, 77 mph winds were recorded at the Dayton International Airport.
