Sometimes you see something, and you just know it’s going to be a moment that is remembered in the annals of a sports rivalry. Such was the case on November 29 of last year when the Buckeyes went up to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan.
OSU started slow, but then took control of the game just as some winter weather was making its way through Michigan Stadium. The snow began to stick, and Brutus got an idea in his head to put his stamp on the rivalry, so he did just that. He crossed out the “M” in the end zone and polished it off with a small “Script Ohio” as Ohio State put the finishing touches on a 27-9 victory.
Buckeye Nation loved it, while those wearing maize and blue are still crying unsportsmanlike over the display. Jeff Moody, who was Brutus that day, went behind the scenes with the Columbus Dispatch to tell a first-person account of what went through his head and how it all unfolded the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, and it’s well worth the watch.
In case you haven’t seen it, we have it here thanks to our friends at the Columbus Dispatch. You can get a peek at how it almost didn’t happen, why Moody thought it would be a good idea, and some of the reactions of those around him from both sides.
I would say that we should be on the lookout for the Michigan mascot looking to settle the score inside Ohio Stadium this fall, but the Wolverines are one of the few programs that don’t have a mascot parading the sidelines. Something tells me there will still be an effort to get even. We shall see on November 28 on the banks of the Olentangy.
