It was a grand week for Monroe County Region Athlete of the Week voting last week, as four nominees gathered more than 1,000 voted. Zane Knezevich of Jefferson’s boys track and field team topped the poll with 12,422 votes.
He got plenty of competition as New Boston Huron softball player Catherine Shore had her named clicked 9,550 times, Makenzie Wolfe of Summerfield’s girls track and field team 2,349 and Bedford softball player Mya Smithson 1,332.
A total of 26,788 votes were cast.
It’s time to cast your vote for the May 11-17 winner.
There is something for everyone in this week’s poll with at least one athlete from all 14 Region schools nominated.
Voting will continue through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20.
Here are this week’s candidates in alphabetical order:
Ella Baker, Airport girls track and field: Won the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:23.42 at the Division 2 Regional at Chelsea.
Olivia Beaudrie, SMCC girls track and field: Soared to victory in the high jump and helped a relay take first place at the Division 3 Regional at Adrian.
Madison Cousino, Dundee softball: Scored seven times, collected four hits and stole three bases as the Vikings swept Onsted for their first two LCAA wins of the season.
Christian Craanen, SMCC boys track and field: Ran a personal-best time of 1:59.64 to win the 800 meters at the Division 3 Regional at Adrian Madison.
Cameron Crane, New Boston Huron boys track and field: Crowned Division 2 Regional champion in the pole vault by clearing 12-8.
Tayah Crowley, Bedford girls track and field: Set a school record of :12.65 in the 100 meters and qualified for the state finals.
Maddi Duke, Bedford boys track and field: Ran a personal best of 1:54.7 to win the 800 meters and also helped the 1,600 relay qualify for the state finals at Division 1 Regional at Saline.
Orion Galloway, Jefferson boys track and field: Hit a season-best time of 1:59.29 to win the 800 meters at Division 2 Regional at Chelsea.
Taleon Guess, Bedford boys golf: Won the Monroe County Championship for the third time in his career with a 2-under-par 70 at Carrington Golf Club, then went 2-under again during a medalist round in a meet at The Legacy.
Julia Hughes, Ida girls track and field: Dominated both hurdle races at the Division 3 Regional at Adrian Madison.
Paige Konrad, Erie Mason girls track and field: Posted a season best of 17-1.5 to win the long jump at the Division 3 Regional at Adrian Madison.
Kaitlyn Kwiatkowski, Bedford softball: Went 5-for-5 on the day her mother was honored by throwing out the first pitch on Cancer Awareness Day then had a 5-for-6 day against Tecumseh.
Briley Lechner, Monroe girls soccer: Scored two goals Monday and posted a hat trick Friday.
JT Lemert, Summerfield boys track and field: Qualified for the state finals in two events by winning the shot-put and taking third in the discus at Division 4 Regional at Hillsdale Academy.
Kaily McDaniel, Milan girls tennis & track and field: Went into the Division 3 Regional at Grosse Ile unseeded, but beat the No. 1 seed and won two other matches to reach the finals at No. 2 singles where she dropped a three-set heartbreaker. Also helped the 1,600 relay win a Regional championship.
Lincoln Murbach, Erie Mason boys track and field: Won the low hurdles in the Division 3 Regional at Adrian Madison with a personal-best time of :39.72.
Giuliana Nastale, Erie Mason girls track and field: Won the 100 and 200 meters at the Division 3 Regional at Adrian Madison and helped two relays qualify for state.
Sam Przytula, Gibraltar Carlson boys track and field: Threw 142-10 to win the discus at Division 1 Regional at Saline.
Nate Pudlowski, Bedford baseball: Threw a perfect game against Summerfield.
Grace Raymond, Summerfield girls track and field: Qualified for the state finals in four events, including setting school records in the 800 meters and the 3,200 relay. She was clocked at 2:28.82 in the 800.
Brek Ruddy, Whiteford boys track and field: Set a school record of 14-4 while winning the pole vault and ran a leg on a state-qualifying relay in the Division 3 Regional at Adrian Madison.
Caden Schroyer, Whiteford baseball: Rang up three hits in each game and earned the pitching win in the opening game of a sweep of Dundee.
Malaya Singer, New Boston Huron girls soccer: Scored three times as Huron wrapped up its third straight undefeated season in the Huron League.
Hayley Southerland, SMCC softball: Doubled, tripled and homered as the Kestrels swept a double header against Clinton, the No. 5 team in Division 3.
Jacob Stanislawski, Flat Rock boys track and field: Ran 9:36.78 to win 3,200 meters at Division 2 Regional at Chelsea.
Monica Steinmetz, Gibraltar Carlson girls tennis: Pushed her season record to 24-0 by winning Division 2 Regional championship at No. 3 singles.
Addyson Wilt, Ida girls track and field: Crowned as champion of the Division 3 Regional at Adrian Madison with a throw of 111-2 in the discus.
Connor Zimmerman, Ida boys golf: Was second in the Monroe County Championships then led his team to an LCAA jamboree title with a medalist round of 37.
