The Americas High School baseball team lost the series opener, 5-3, to Birdville in the Class 5A, Division 1 UIL regional semifinals at Odessa Permian High School.
Americas led Thursday’s Game 1, 1-0 and 3-2, but the Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead for good.
Jake Munoz helped lead Americas with a hit, an RBI and two walks, Ruben Hernandez drove in a run and Dylan Licon went 1-3.
Americas will need to win two games on Friday, May 15 to win the series and advance to the regional finals.
The Trailblazers are the lone team left from El Paso in this year’s Texas playoffs. Americas defeated El Paso High and Abilene High to reach the regional semifinals.
