Much of the anger from Cincinnati Reds’ fans on social media after the team was eliminated from the MLB postseason by the Los Angeles Dodgers in a two-game, National League wild-card series sweep revolved around how few pitches were thrown by Nick Lodolo and All-Star Andrew Abbott.
Lodolo threw 14 pitches in the 8-4 Game 2 loss before Nick Martinez relieved him. Abbott was the Reds’ scheduled start for Game 3, if Cincinnati had won one of the first two games.
The Reds squandered a golden opportunity in the top of the 6th inning of Game 2, failing to score a run despite having the bases loaded with nobody out against Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Cincinnati’s postseason record since a three-game sweep of the Dodgers in 1995 is 2-15.
The Dodgers advanced to a National League division-series matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies.
