20-year-old dead, another person injured after shooting at Canton home

CANTON ‒ City police and state investigators are probing a July 18 fatal shooting at a home on Garfield Avenue SW.

A 20-year-old man is dead, according to the Stark County Coroner’s Office. His name was not immediately released pending notification of family.

Police said another man was injured. Additional information was not immediately available on the afternoon of July 18.

The home is within the 800 block of Garfield Avenue SW.

Police have not released any details of the shooting. The injured male was taken to the hospital. Police tape surrounds the home.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrived at the scene in the morning. BCI spokesman Steve Irwin said agents were called to Garfield Avenue to assist police with collecting evidence.

He could not share specific details about the shooting.

A neighbor said she heard gunshots early in the morning at the home.
