Akron lifts boil water advisory, says water is safe to drink

The boil-water advisory for West Akron issued by the city has been lifted, the city announced Saturday, July 18.

The advisory was issued July 17 after a water main break. Affected customers were in in the “West High” service area, which includes Sherbondy Hill, Highland Square and portions of Kenmore.

The Akron Water Supply Bureau says test results from 20 locations in the affected area show the water is safe to use and consume as normal. Customers may experience slight discoloration, cloudiness or excess air in the water for the next day or two. This is normal and will clear on its own, the city says.

The break happened around 3 a.m. July 17 on a 12-inch main on Superior Avenue at Leonard Street. The elevated tank on Sherbondy Hill dropped to levels that reduced water pressure for many customers.
