“The safety of all zoo employees, visitors and animals is top priority … Any updates will be shared,” the zoo said.

The threat, the zoo said, “is consistent with other zoos receiving similar threats in past months.”

The Akron Zoo received a threat the morning of May 3 and closed for the day. The Akron Police Department “was able to determine the threat was false and the Akron Zoo is safe,” zoo officials said then.

The Columbus Zoo received a bomb threat on May 2 and the Toledo Zoo received on on May 1.

The Akron Zoo is open 361 days a year. Peak season hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
