An Ohio congresswoman will undergo physical rehabilitation after being injured in a hit-and-run crash in Toledo.
U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo, posted a video on X Aug. 9 thanking supporters for well wishes that have aided her “very rapid recovery.” Kaptur’s campaign manager, Kegan Zimmerman, was driving the congresswoman to church on Aug. 2 when a Nissan Altima crossed the center line and hit their vehicle.
The driver of the Altima fled the scene and left the car behind, according to a crash report. Zimmerman, 26, sustained non-life threatening injuries.
“It was not a pleasant experience, and there were wounds that resulted,” Kaptur said. “But let me tell you, we have to be very grateful in this region to have the kind of dedicated medical staff that exist at Mercy St. Vincent’s.”
Kaptur said she’s grateful to have time to recover while Congress is on summer recess.
Kaptur, 80, is the longest-serving woman in Congress and running for reelection in November against former GOP state Rep. Derek Merrin.
