Republican governor candidate John James visited the Monroe County Fair on Friday, Aug. 7.
“It was very enlightening,” he said. “I got to tell you, it was in Monroe County that I learned how important it was for local control.”
While at the fair, James took photos with supporters and toured the fairgrounds.
James will be facing Democratic candidate Jocelyn Benson, who visited Monroe on July 1 as part of a campaign tour, in the November primary election. He is running on a platform of financial transparency, a proposed parents bill of rights, and eliminating the state’s income tax, among others.
“After 8 years of Whitmer and Benson, working families got higher taxes and higher energy bills while they used their positions to land secret data center deals to benefit themselves,” James said. “Michigan voters deserve to hear directly the difference between the Benson–El-Sayed radical socialist extremist plan to continue Michigan’s decline and my common-sense plan to protect freedom and grow jobs.”
He has also challenged Benson to five debates, two of which Benson has agreed to, according to a release from James’ campaign.
