What they said

Ontario coach Aaron Eckert on seeing the confidence buildin in his team after back-to-back running-clock wins over Norwalk and Madison: “We are being more confident and more firm of what we need to do. We are executing our assignments and anytime you are able to do that, you play faster and when you play faster, you make better decisions. Our guys are playing with much better intensity and our offense is starting to click. We kept it rolling defensively after making an adjustment after the first Madison drive.”

Eckert on establishing the run early and piling up 371 yards rushing: “It has been our identity the last 5-6 years and it is something we really rely on. We weren’t able to run the ball well in Week 1 and in Week 2, we didn’t run it as well as we wanted so we made it a point of emphasis this week. We are happy we were able to run the ball well in the first half and then get our young backs some touches when we had a comfortable lead. The O-Line did a great job of making holes and when we got going, it was hard to stop us.”

Eckert on his defense forcing four turnovers: “Defensively, outside of one play, we played a very sound football game. We needed to settle down early on after Madison had a solid opening drive. Give credit to (Madison coach) Kobi (Johnson), he is doing a great job over there and they are going to be just fine moving forward with him in a leadership role. Tonight, the Warriors look like we made that jump from Week 2 to Week 3 and we hope we are hitting our stride heading into Clear Fork next week.”

Kooper Kilgore on running for 174 yards on just six carries and what he saw out of his offensive line: “Huge holes. I just wanted to go in and do what I do, ground and pound, run the ball hard and make it hard for anyone to stop me. That is the game plan every week. My offensive line were moving bodies all over the place. It was a fun game.”

Kilgore on being the featured guy in the offense as just a sophomore: “I think it is cool. But it is all about continuing to grow from here and get better every day. Improvement is the key word every single week.”

Madison coach Kobi Johnson on putting a tough Week 3 behind them and moving on to Ohio Cardinal Conference play next week: “Gosh, nobody wanted this outcome tonight. Our guys are disappointed in the way we play and I made sure to tell them that it all starts with me. I have to have us more prepared to play football. Ontario did a really good job tonight and took advantage of what they need to take advantage of, so credit those guys. But, moving forward, it is all about moving forward and getting ready for Wooster next week on the road. We will be prepared to go get a W there.”

Johnson on the growth he is seeing out of the Rams: “Coming off of the big Week 2 win, we were hoping to come out and play really well. We were excited about that. We just have to execute week in and week out regardless of what the situation is and what the scoreboard says. Moving forward, we want to be as perfect as we can every single snap.”

What’s next?

The Ontario Warriors improve to 2-1 on the season and travel to Clear Fork (1-2) in Week 4 to begin Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference play. The Rams fall to 1-2 and head to Wooster (0-3) to start Ohio Cardinal Conference action.
