Need to fuel up? Drivers in Marion may have more options as several gas stations are in various stages of planning with the Marion County Regional Planning Commission.
At least two gas stations have had final site plans approved and two others are still finalizing designs with the Marion County RPC. Officials expect two stations could begin construction very soon.
Some of the sites have been in the works for years, said Evelyn Warr-Omness, director of Marion County RPC. Planning for gas stations can be complex due to the volume of traffic surrounding the facility.
“The thing about gas stations is they are a vehicular destination,” Warr-Omness said. “And so they tend to want to be at corners or places that are easy to get in and out, but then that also can be a little more complex because of the turning motions and the stacking distance at that light or at that intersection.”
Here’s where each gas station stands in the planning process:
Casey’s #1
Location: 759 Kibbey Dr., Marion Township
What’s in the plan: Eight automobile pumps and four diesel pumps with a convenience store.
Where it’s at now: The final site plan was approved for this location, leaving just a few more details such as paying sanitary/sewer fees.
Casey’s #2
Location: 1081 Mt. Vernon Ave.
What’s in the plan: Five pumps with 10 positions for automobiles and a convenience store.
Where it’s at now: The final site plan was approved for this location, leaving just a few more details such as a demolition permit.
Friendship Kitchen
Location: University Drive and Ohio 309, Marion Township
What’s in the plan: Twelve pumps with a convenience store.
Where it’s at now: Sketch plan was approved and planning officials are waiting for final plans to be drawn up.
Kroger Fuel Center
Location: 1580 Marion–Mt. Gilead Rd., Marion Township
What’s in the plan: The sketch plan outlines a fuel center in the Kroger parking lot.
Where it’s at now: The sketch plan was approved, with conditions.
