Arrest made in March fatal shooting that left 30-year-old dead
On Thursday, Columbus police also arrested a 23-year-old man accused of fatally shooting another man on the Hilltop in March.
Anferny Slaughter, of Franklinton, was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in connection with the March 10 shooting of 30-year-old Ronald J. Smith.
Around 6:25 p.m. on March 10, Smith was found shot on the 300 block of South Warren Avenue. He died three days later from his injuries.
Smith was a dog-lover who loved music and getting tattoos, as well as rooting on his beloved Cleveland Browns and Ohio State University Buckeyes, according to his obituary. He also was a chess player and played basketball.
Slaughter appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court for his first hearing on Friday. His bond was set at $1 million.
According to 10th District State Court of Appeal records, Slaughter had previously been charged as a juvenile with delinquency murder for his role in a homicide that occurred in October 2016. The charge was later dismissed after Slaughter agreed to testify against his co-defendants at trial, according to court records.
