Fremont was a busy city on June 20: Downtown Fremont hosted its first farmers market of the season in the morning and Juneteenth was then celebrated at Rodger Young Park in the afternoon.

A large crowd visited the farmers market and car show Saturday.

Moderate temperatures and sunny skies made for perfect conditions to check out more than 70 vendors selling produce, jewelry, cookies and cakes, dog treats and freshly popped kettle corn. Vendors also offered services such as home repairs, health services and financial planning.

Local farm vendors offered a selection of fresh produce and food trucks served meals and snacks.

The first of the classic car shows held during the farmers market had more than 200 cars lining the streets.

Jamie Leigh, from Gibsonburg, provided entertainment for the event, which lasted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Juneteeth kicked off at 1 p.m.

The 2026 Fremont Juneteenth Celebration was held at Rodger Young Park from 1-5 p.m. the same day.

The event was sponsored by the Fremont NAACP, commemorating the 161 years of freedom since June 19, 1865, when slaves in Texas were freed via the Emancipation Proclamation.

Some of the many activities included the singing of “Lift Every Voice,” and NAACP Scholarship Award winners Amaree Haralson and Makaiya Finley read their essays. Violinist Pablo “NeNo” Oquendo II gave a concert for the crowd.

Other activities included a baby crawl, a Negro League reenactment, the crowning of Mr. and Mrs. Juneteenth, a Lil’ Miss and Mister Juneteenth contest, a bike-car show and a Soul Train line.

Several food trucks were on the grounds, offering a variety of food and drinks.
