Dublin Scioto grads killed, teen injured in fiery crash, Columbus police say

A crash on Columbus’ Far North Side near Dublin killed two recent Dublin City Schools graduates and injured a student, a spokesman for the school district said.

Joshua Marr, 18, and Bder Al Saadon, 17, died in the July 20 crash on Sawmill Road near Sawmill Reserve Drive.

Marr was driving a 2015 Infiniti car southbound on Sawmill Road when he lost control of the vehicle, Columbus police said in a news release.

The car began to spin, crossing the northbound lanes of the road and striking a utility pole, police said. The crash report says the car caught fire after striking the pole. A witness was able to pull the surviving 15-year-old boy from the vehicle, but Marr and Al Saadon were killed.

Cassie Dietrich, spokeswoman for Dublin City Schools, said Marr and Al Saadon were 2025 graduates of Dublin Scioto High School. The boy who survived the crash is a current student.

Marr and Al Saadon were members of the school’s football team, according to online rosters. A vigil was held for the boys July 22 at the site of the crash.

The school had counselors available at the school on Monday and Tuesday.

“Our hearts go out to the families and friends of those lost, and to all members of the Irish community who knew and loved them,” Principal Tom Cochran said in a message to families. “The loss of two young lives so full of promise is heartbreaking, and we know this news will be difficult to many.”

Cochran encouraged families to check in on each other and dial the 988 suicide and crisis hotline for additional support if needed.
