CLEVELAND — The first-place Guardians continue their nine-game homestand against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, May 12, at Progessive Field.

The Guardians started this homestand with a 6-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on May 8, and then lost 2-1 to the Twins in extra innings on May 9, and 5-4 on May 10. That came after the Guardians won four of seven games on their last road trip, winning two out of three against the Athletics from May 1-3 and splitting a four-game series against the Royals from May 4-7.

This homestand for the Guardians continues with one more game against the Angels on May 13 and a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds (May 15-17).

Longtime Guardians public address announcer Bob Tayek dies

The Guardians announced before the game that longtime PA announcer Bob Tayek has died.

“It is with great sadness we share the news that our longtime public address announcer, Bob Tayek, has passed away today,” the team said in a statement. “For nearly three decades, Bob was the voice of Progressive Field, welcoming generations of fans to Cleveland baseball with warmth, professionalism and a presence that became part of the ballpark experience. Please keep Bob’s family, friends and all who worked alongside him in your thoughts during this difficult time.”

Tayek joined the Guardians organization in the 1990s, and served as public address announcer from 1999-2025. Tayek announced one World Series (2016) and one MLB All-Star Game (2019) at Progressive Field. The Guardians issued a statement on April 4 stating that Tayek would be stepping away “for at least the first half of the 2026 season as he focuses on recent health challenges.”

The Guardians have used a team of interim public address announcers this season.
