Downtown's new Mercantile Immersive brings Las Vegas 'Sphere' vibes to Cincinnati

Want a wedding by the sea? Or a gala in a rose garden? How about a milestone birthday party in a grand chateau?

It turns out you don’t have to leave downtown Cincinnati for that.

The Mercantile Immersive, the latest private events venue to open in Downtown, offers guests a chance to explore the world or design their own surroundings through an immersive multimedia experience.

What’s in the Mercantile Immersive?

Located inside the city’s historic Mercantile building on Walnut Street, the 14,000-square-foot venue can host up to 500 guests across its two adjoining rooms, which feature floor-to-ceiling IMAX-quality LED displays, 360-degree projection mapping, dynamic lighting and spatial audio.

The site also includes bridal suites and green rooms, livestream and presentation capabilities for events, and catering kitchens for in-house service.

Likened to Las Vegas’ ‘The Sphere’

The venue was created by Cincinnati’s own DelightMore, in partnership with developer The Model Group. Indiana-based Blockhouse Studios, a large-scale digital installation production company, serves as the event center’s content and technology partner.

According to a press release, the Mercantile Immersive provides “seamless integration of audio-visual storytelling,” too, and project mapping featuring 456 million pixels. It also “brings the level of spectacle seen in The Sphere Las Vegas to Cincinnati, placing every guest in the best seat in the house.”

(Think of it as the private, customizable version of Downtown’s former van Gogh immersive on West Fourth Street, or the Harry Potter immersive exhibit coming to Miami Township this October.)

The Mercantile Immersive is the latest business to open in the newly-rehabbed Mercantile building, which was converted from offices to apartments by Model Group over the last several years. The Mercantile Library, a 190-year-old loaning library, also remodeled its headquarters on the 11th and 12th floors for $5.3 million.
