Ohio State football has lost out on the No. 2 running back in the 2027 class.
David Gabriel Georges, a five-star running back prospect, announced his committment to Tennessee on July 22, making his final decision between the Volunteers, Ohio State and Ole Miss.
Multiple recruiting news outlets made predictions at the beginning of the week that Gabriel Georges would pick Tennessee over Ohio State in a recent momentum shift.
Gabriel Georges is the No. 10 overall prospect and second-best running back in the class of 2027, according to 247Sports (Keamon Spell, the top running back, is committed to Georgia). He grew up in Canada before moving two years ago to attend a boarding school in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a little over 100 miles from the Tennessee campus in Knoxville.
Ohio State does not have a running back committed to the 2027 class. The Buckeyes’ highest-rated running back in the 2026 class is freshman Legend Bey, who flipped from the Volunteers after initially flipping from Ohio State to Tennessee in the early signing period. Tennessee released Bey from his scholarship agreement in December 2025, allowing Bey to sign with Ohio State. Bey, a high school dual-threat quarterback, was initially recruited as a four-star athlete (ATH) before joining the running back core.
The Buckeyes also got a pledge from four-star running back Elijah Newman-Hall in the 2028 class. Newman-Hall verbally committed in June 2025 after his freshman season at Blake High School in Tampa, Florida.
