CLEVELAND — The Guardians welcomed back their star third baseman but lost 10-6 to the Minnesota Twins July 22 at Progressive Field.
Jose Ramirez was activated off the injured list before the game after missing more than a month with a hamate bone fracture. Kahlil Watson, who ended the July 21 game with a tremendous catch, was optioned to Triple-A Columbus.
The Guardians won the first two games of this series, July 20 and July 21.
Here’s how the July 22 Guardians-Twins game unfolded.
Twins beat the Guardians
The Guardians have fallen 10-6 to the Twins.
In the loss, Cleveland committed three errors and allowed four unearned runs.
In his first game back from injury, Jose Ramirez went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Twins reach double digits vs Guardians
The Twins have opened up a 10-4 lead in the eighth inning.
The Twins loaded the bases against Matt Festa in the eighth inning on an error by Jose Ramirez error, Luke Keaschall’s hit-by-pitch and Alex Jackson’s walk.
Trevor Larnach, who’s having a terrific night, singled home two runs. After Will Dion relieved Festa, Josh Bell singled home the third run of the inning to make it 10-4.
One night after the Guardians put up double digits against the Twins, Minnesota has returned the favor tonight.
Guardians, Twins score update
With Petey Halpin on first, Steven Kwan singled to put the runners on the corners. José Ramírez then grounded into a fielder’s choice, just beating the throw at first and scoring a run, making it 7-4 Minnesota.
Ramirez is 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored tonight.
Twins put together 4-run 4th inning to take lead vs Guardians
The Twins roughed up Slade Cecconi in the fourth inning, scoring four runs to take a 7-3 lead.
With one out, Alan Roden reached base on an error by shortstop Brayan Rocchio.
Luke Keaschall followed with a single, and Alex Jackson drove in a run with a single, putting the Twins ahead 4-3.
With two outs and two runners on, Brooks Lee launched a three-run home run to center field, blowing the inning wide open.
Twins, Guardians tied
The Twins have tied it in the third inning.
Alex Jackson opened the inning with a double and scored via Brooks Lee’s single a few batters later.
Later, with Trevor Larnach on third, Josh Bell grounded out to the right side of the infield. The Guardians got the out, but the Twins got the run to tie it.
José Ramírez hits RBI single vs Twins as Guardians extend lead
With Bailey on first, Steven Kwan continued his recent hot streak with a single to put runners on the corners.
José Ramírez followed with a swinging bunt single to score Bailey from third and give the Guardians a 3-1 lead.
Ramirez is 2-for-2 tonight in his return.
Patrick Bailey puts Guardians on top in second inning
Kyle Manzardo doubled and scored on Patrick Bailey’s RBI single to right field, and the Guardians are up 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning against Bailey Ober and the Twins.
Jose Ramirez singles in return from injury
The Jose Ramirez effect has been felt early.
Ramirez, in his first at-bat back from the injured list, singled and eventually came around to score on Brayan Rocchio’s single, which came just after he missed a home run by a few feet down the right field line.
It’s tied 1-1 heading to the second inning.
Guardians, Twins score
Facing Guardians starter Slade Cecconi, Twins outfielder Trevor Larnach drilled the fourth pitch of game for a leadoff home, giving the Twins a 1-0 lead before many fans had even reached their seats.
