An Alliance police officer already on paid leave over a previous arrest now is facing new legal troubles.
Sgt. Ethan Griffith was arrested July 28 on a felony count of child endangerment, accused of dragging and striking a 4-year-old boy at White House Fruit Farm.
Griffith − the son of former Alliance Police Chief Scott Griffith − has been with the police department since May 2022. He lives in Canfield.
In a news release, the Goshen Police District detailed the latest allegations:
The boy, his mother and Griffith were at the fruit farm when the child allegedly was “acting up.” Griffith then dragged the boy by one arm into the parking lot and struck him twice on the left side of his face. The boy had bruises and marks that were still visible more than 24 hours later.
The release also stated Griffith and the boy’s mother are in a relationship.
He was arrested June 7 in Austintown after police said he crashed a pickup truck, fled the scene and led officers on a foot chase. His next court date for this incident is July 29.
He is due in court July 30 for the second incident.
“Sgt. Griffith was already on paid administrative leave from a previous OVI related arrest and remains on leave while city officials discuss additional disciplinary action,” Alliance Police Chief Akenra X said in an email.
Griffith is represented by attorney Ron Yarwood.
