Anti-Acton attack ad is asinine

Re “Slam on Acton doesn’t work,” June 21: I usually just mute out all political ads on TV, but one that is currently airing gets me so angry every time I see it. That is why I have to agree 100% with Mike Adamkosky’s letter.

While many Ohio residents didn’t agree with the actions and restrictions enacted by Gov. Mike DeWine and Dr. Amy Acton during the COVID crisis of 2020-21, it wasn’t like Ohio was the only state to do this.

By May 2020, only Montana and Wyoming did not order all public schools to close for the remainder of that academic year.

So, to me, the ad saying Acton was overreaching in her SUGGESTIONS to DeWine (who has repeatedly stated all decisions regarding closures during this time, were 100% his) is totally false and should be taken from the air.

Not to mention that as CEO of his own biotech company during this time, Vivek Ramaswamy made over $2 billion on the COVID vaccine. But I guess that doesn’t matter to some.

Macrolooting a bigger problem

Re “Microlooting, Medicaid fraud and shrugs at assassin. We’re in trouble,” June 21: Philip Derrow, you are absolutely right. To support microlooting is wrong.

When as a youth, I worked in my father’s hardware store, we rarely doubted our customers’ honesty. You are a smart man, so I am not certain whether it is blindness or intentional spin that has you pointing at a splinter instead of a log.

I was taught, while in the armed forces, that leadership runs from the person in charge down to those that work underneath them.

We’ve twice elected a president who has perfected the art of the big lie.

He misleads and misdirects his followers. He said he would not involve the U.S. in foreign wars and then started a war. There is little doubt that his family and friends have enriched themselves during the current administration. As for violence, from attempted insurrection to changing the Department of Defense to the Department of War, to his rants on Truth Social, he encourages violence.

I would argue that the better conclusion is that a republic falls when its leadership loses their shared values. Whether Republican or Democrat, without better quality of leadership in Congress and the executive office, our country will suffer.
