A Portage County grand jury has indicted two men and a woman, accusing them of sexually abusing a preteen Streetsboro girl for more than two years.
Dustin W. Shawley, 37, and Janice M. Shawley, 36, both of Streetsboro, and Franklin E. Janszo, 62, of Wellington in Lorain County, pleaded not guilty Tuesday at their arraignment in Portage County Common Pleas Court, according to records.
Dustin Shawley is charged with six counts each of first-degree felony rape and third-degree felony gross sexual imposition and a single count of third-degree felony endangering children. According to an indictment, the alleged offenses were committed between December 2021, when the girl was 9, and February 2024, when she was 12.
Janszo is charged with four counts each of first-degree felony rape and third-degree felony gross sexual imposition. The alleged offenses took place between December 2021 and June 2022, when the girl was 10, according to an indictment.
Janice Shawley is charged with permitting child abuse and endangering children, both third-degree felonies, with the alleged offenses taking place during the same period as those of Dustin Shawley.
The relationship between the Shawleys was unclear, but court records show they have the same address.
During their arraignments, Magistrate Diana Prehn ordered Dustin Shawley and Janszo be held in Portage County Jail on $500,000 cash or surety bond, and Janice Shawley be held on a $75,000 cash or surety bond. Prehn also ordered random substance abuse tests for all three defendants in addition to temporary protection orders.
The three defendants are scheduled for jury trial May 20 before Judge Laurie J. Pittman.
