The New York Giants have just 13 wins over the last three seasons, the second-fewest in the NFL over that span (Tennessee, 12).
Big Blue, after qualifying for the postseason with a 9-7-1 record in 2022, logged three consecutive miserable seasons with records of 6-11, 3-14, and 4-13.
This season, with John Harbaugh and his staff taking the reins and a beefed-up roster, expectations are higher. The over/under line on the Giants heading into this season is 7.5 wins, which would be double from last year’s win total.
Vic Tafur of The Athletic believes the Giants should surpass 7.5 wins this season.
I like to avoid crowds the older I get, but there’s no getting away from (blows trumpet) the most popular season-total bet of them all. Offensive guru Brian Daboll was pretty incompetent as the Giants’ coach and hit the bricks, and in walks Super Bowl winning coach John Harbaugh. He is going to have to tone down Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo — and hope Malik Nabers is back to full strength — but Harbaugh did bring along tight end Isaiah Likely to help.
Harbaugh is also being gifted a nasty pass rush on defense. A big reason why I like this one so much is I also plan to get down on Abdul Carter at 50-1 as Defensive Player of the Year. He had more maturity issues than sacks (four) as a rookie last season, but the 18 QB hits and 66 pressures were impressive.
Harbaugh is the reason Giant fans should be optimistic. In his 18 seasons as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, his teams finished under .500 just three times and won fewer than eight games only once. On the flip side, Harbaugh’s teams won ten or more games in 11 of his 18 seasons as Ravens head coach.
The Giants, as we know, have lost 10 or more games in 10 of their last 12 seasons, which is the most futile period in franchise history.
