Training camp is just about a week away, and the New York Giants are gearing up for their first summer workouts under new head coach John Harbaugh and his staff.
Many of the team’s units have several new coaches and players in their rooms this year, and the safeties aren’t any different. They will be run under two defensive backs coaches, Addison Lynch and Donald D’Alesio, in coordinator Dennard Wilson’s more aggressive scheme this season.
Here’s a quick preview of the Giants’ safeties heading into camp.
Jevon Holland
Holland, a former 2021 second-round pick by the Miami Dolphins out of Oregon, was inked to a three-year, $45.3 million free-agent contract by the Giants last March. He started 14 games, missing three due to knee issues, and registered 63 total tackles with five passes defensed and an interception. His performance was largely underwhelming. The Giants are hoping he flourishes under Wilson’s scheme as the free safety, but he will have to stay healthy to do that.
Tyler Nubin
The Giants’ second-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft out of Minnesota has been injury-ridden in his first two seasons, missing eight games total. He suffered a high ankle sprain in 2024, and last year, a neck injury ended his season early. Still, Nubin has been productive, and the Giants see him as even more so now that they will be attacking on defense again.
Jason Pinnock
Pinnock is back with the Giants after spending 2025 with the San Francisco 49ers, where he started seven games. He started 37 games at safety for Big Blue from 2022-24 and was productive, making 211 total tackles, 12 for losses. Pinnock also had two interceptions as a Giant, one in which he returned 102 yards for a touchdown, tying a franchise record.
Elijah Campbell
Campbell, 30, also comes over from Miami, where he spent the last five seasons as mostly a special-teamer. The Giants brought him in on a one-year deal to provide depth to the defense and teams.
Ar’Darius Washington
Washington will be used in a multitude of ways by the Giants. We also listed him as a nickel cornerback and slot guy. His versatility and playmaking ability will add another layer to this unit.
Raheem Layne
Layne played in three games for the Giants last year, starting two. He begins camp on the roster bubble and will need some breaks to make the 53-man roster.
Beau Brade
Played in 15 games for the Giants in 2025, mostly on special teams. Brade played under Harbaugh in Baltimore before that and hails from the University of Maryland, Wilson’s alma mater, so there’s familiarity here with him.
