A Montgomery County man is facing a drunken driving charge after New York State Police said he crashed head-on into an ambulance in Otsego County, sending four people to the hospital.
The crash happened around 2:48 a.m. July 18 on State Highway 28 in the town of Milford.
Ambulance occupants taken to hospital
State Police said Dylan Anthony Hayes, 25, of Fort Plain, was driving a 2004 Volkswagen south on State Highway 28 when he crossed into the opposite lane and struck a Headwaters EMS ambulance head-on.
The impact forced the ambulance off the roadway.
Four people in the ambulance — a 60-year-old male driver, a 25-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man and a 73-year-old man — were taken by Milford EMS to Bassett Medical Center. Police did not release information about the extent of their injuries.
Driver charged with DWI
Troopers said Hayes was given standardized field sobriety tests, which indicated he was impaired.
He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Police said his reported blood alcohol content was 0.08%.
Hayes was processed at State Police in Oneonta and issued appearance tickets directing him to appear in Milford Town Court on Aug. 18. The investigation remains ongoing.
