Retired New York Giants wide receiver and Super Bowl XLVI champion Victor Cruz has brought the popular Southern fast-food chain Krystal to New Jersey, marking the brand’s Northeast debut.
The first location opened on June 4 at 2210 Route 22 in Union, following weather-related construction delays that postponed the original winter timeline.
As a Paterson native and brand partner, Cruz has been deeply involved since the project’s inception, helping develop exclusive New Jersey-inspired menu items that reflect local flavors and culture. These include Cruz Sauce, a sofrito mayonnaise, yuca fries, a Taylor Pork Roll Slider, Tres Leches Glaze Bombs, and specialty milkshakes.
Krystal’s signature square sliders, breakfast offerings, and other classics are also available.
“North Jersey raised me, and that means something,” Cruz said in a press release, via FER Magazine. “People here have high standards for food, for authenticity, for places that actually feel like part of the neighborhood. That’s why I’ve been involved from Day 1… This community deserves something built with them in mind, and that’s exactly what we did.”
The Union restaurant is expected to employ more than 65 workers and is part of a franchise agreement for up to five regional locations. A grand opening celebration took place on June 17, featuring a ribbon-cutting, giveaways, and community events.
