Dinosaur Bar-B-Que has announced that it is closing its Brooklyn location after 15 years in business. It said on Facebook that its lease has ended and the building will be demolished to make way for new apartments.

“Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Brooklyn has been more than just a restaurant,” it said in its Facebook post. “It’s been a place for friends, families, first dates, celebrations, and plenty of unforgettable nights in Gowanus.
“But what really made this place special wasn’t just the building. It was the people.”
Its Facebook post thanked its staff, its regulars and the Gowanus community. It has not set a final service date for the location, but said it would be in the spring.
Dinosaur Bar-B-Que opened its first location in Syracuse in 1988. The Rochester location, its second, opened 10 years later in the former Lehigh Valley Railroad Station, which was built in 1905.
It opened and subsequently closed locations in Newark, New Jersey; Stamford, Connecticut; Chicago; and Baltimore.
After the closing, the company will have five locations; the others are in Hamburg (near Buffalo), Harlem and Troy.
Dinosaur’s Rochester location in Rochester remains fantastically popular; it ranked 96th in the Yelp list of Top 100 Barbecue Spots for 2024.
