New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart showed real promise as a rookie, throwing for 2,272 yards with 15 touchdowns and only five interceptions while adding 487 rushing yards and nine rushing scores in 14 games.
However, mandatory minicamp revealed some of the expected growing pains in timing, reads, and consistency within the new offense under head coach John Harbaugh and coordinator Matt Nagy. Those struggles are normal for a young quarterback learning his second system in two years.
With a full offseason of installation and a stronger supporting cast, Dart has a clear opportunity to take a meaningful step forward in 2026. Here are five realistic benchmarks that would signal solid progress.
Improve efficiency and accuracy
Target a completion percentage in the 64–66 percent range with 7.0–7.5 yards per attempt. This would represent a modest but important jump from his rookie marks of roughly 63.7 percent and 6.7 yards per attempt, showing better rhythm in the short-to-intermediate passing game.
Sharpen turnover management
Limit interceptions to 12 or fewer while keeping overall turnovers low. Dart’s rookie interception total was impressive in limited action. Maintaining that discipline across a full season would align perfectly with Harbaugh’s emphasis on low-mistake football.
Utilize mobility effectively
Add 375–475 rushing yards and 4–6 rushing touchdowns through designed runs and smart scrambles. This would build sustainably on his strong rookie rushing production without forcing unnecessary risks.
Excel in high-leverage situations
Aim for 40–43 percent conversion on third downs and above 60 percent completion in the red zone. Incremental gains in these critical areas could directly impact the Giants’ win total.
Deliver solid overall production
Post 3,800–4,300 passing yards and 24–28 touchdown passes. These numbers reflect a natural increase in volume over his rookie totals, made more attainable by the additions of veteran receivers and a bolstered run game.
The minicamp sessions offered just a snapshot, not a final verdict. If Dart hits these benchmarks, the Giants could push for eight to ten wins and begin establishing long-term stability at the quarterback position under Harbaugh.
