How to deal with garden pests

You tilled, you planted, and now it’s just a matter of time before you will be harvesting fresh, delicious homegrown vegetables from your garden.   Keep your garden disease and pest free using the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) method.  IPM is a decision-making process to handle an insect, disease, or animal that is affecting the health of a plant(s) in your garden.  Scout or check your plant(s) health and environment each day:

IPM Methods of Controls include Identify the problem.  Take action.  Manage the problem using the following controls: cultural, mechanical, biological, or chemical.  Use chemical controls as a last resort.  Fewer pesticides in the landscape help with maintaining water quality, keeping the soil and environment healthier, and reducing health hazards for individuals and their pets.  Incorporating IPM into your gardening and landscape routines will keep your garden and landscaping growing healthy.  Check out the educational information at Cornell Extension IPM website   https://cals.cornell.edu/integrated-pest-management.  CCE Oneida County and Master Gardener Volunteers invite you to the Garden Open House on Wednesday, July 15th from 4-7 p.m.  Cornell Cooperative Extension Oneida County answers home and garden questions which can be emailed to homeandgarden@cornell.edu or call 315-736-3394, press 1 and ext. 333.  Leave your question, name, and phone number.  Questions are answered on weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also, visit our website at cceoneida.com or phone 315-736-3394, press 1 and then ext. 100.
