The New York Jets are heading hoping they are the right direction. Head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey have reshaped the roster, by adding veterans and via the 2026 NFL Draft.
That mixture has given fans renewed optimism heading into training camp. Even so, one recent player ranking serves as a reminder that respect across the league still has to be earned.
Pete Prisco’s annual CBS Sports Top 100 players list featured no current Jets among its top performers, but here’s the kicker. Coincidentally, several familiar faces did make the cut.
Cornerback Sauce Gardner landed at No. 48 after being traded to the Indianapolis Colts, while defensive tackle Quinnen Williams checked in at No. 54 following his move to the Dallas Cowboys.
Quarterback Sam Darnold also appeared at No. 72 after leading Seattle to a Super Bowl championship, though he admits he would have loved to have done the same during his days in Florham Park. The rankings aren’t difficult to understand. The Jets remain in the middle of a rebuild.
While receiver Garrett Wilson, running back Breece Hall, pass rusher Will McDonald IV, and several young players possess top-100 talent, they’ll need to produce consistently before earning that level of national recognition. The encouraging news is that New York appears much closer to eventually turning the corner than it did a year ago.
If the Jets take the step many expect this season, don’t be surprised if this list looks considerably different next summer.
Until then, these rankings simply reinforce what everyone around the organization already knows. Potential is nice. Production is better. A heavy dose of the latter all but ensures nationwide recognition.
