2 men injured in downtown Rochester assault; 1 in critical condition

Two men were injured – one with life-threatening injuries – in downtown Rochester early on July 22, according to Rochester Police.

The encounter occurred near the Liberty Pole downtown – at East Main Street near East Avenue – around 2:15 a.m., said Rochester Police Lt. Anthony DelVecchio. Two men suffered injuries due to “blunt force trauma,” he said.

A 55-year-old man suffered serious injuries to his upper body and a 56-year-old man suffered injuries to his lower body that were not considered life-threatening, he said. Both men were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

“The exact circumstances leading up to this incident are unknown and RPD is still investigating,” DelVecchio said in a news release.

No charges have been filed in connection with the encounter.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call 911.
