Ollie's Bargain Outlet in Henrietta shut down by fire marshal over safety issues

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet at 3150 West Henrietta Road in Henrietta Commons plaza was shut down by the town’s fire marshal, Richard-Timothy P. Magin, on May 4.

However, “They are working on their issues,” Magin said May 11.

His temporary closure of the business was the result of:

Last September, the fire marshal’s office inspected each property in the plaza and identified problems that needed to be addressed.

“Ollie’s Corporate Office was the only one that wouldn’t get on board,” Magin said in a statement. Ultimately, “I couldn’t in good conscience let patrons and staff be in that space with so much comprised.”

On May 11, several trucks and vans were parked in front of Ollie’s, and a sign reading, “We apologize for the inconvenience. Closed for maintenance” was posted in the window.

Magin was not told by Ollie’s when work at the Henrietta location will be finished, but he said that as soon as it is, the store can reopen.

What is Ollie’s Bargain Outlet?

Founded in1982, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet is one of the country’s largest retailers of closeout name-brand merchandise and excess inventory sold at deeply discounted prices. Its motto is “Good stuff cheap.”

The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania-based chain operates more than 600 stores and offers what it calls a “treasure hunt” experience for shoppers with an ever-changing inventory of shelf-stable food, housewares, toys, hardware and books.

Where are the Ollie’s stores in the Rochester area?

The Henrietta store opened in 2007 as Ollie’s first Rochester-area location.

A store at 3160 W. Ridge Road in the Lowe’s Plaza in Greece followed that same year. In 2019, an Ollie’s opened at 950 Ridge Road, Webster, in a plaza anchored by BJ’s Wholesale Club.
