Billionaire kids will be more than fine
Vivek Ramaswamy claims he will make Ohio the top state in the country to raise a family – a state where kids get a world-class education. This while he advocates that state universities be consolidated and Ohio’s public school system be financially gutted.
You can be sure that his kids will have the very best of everything, but what about those kids whose parents aren’t extremely wealthy?
He is just another billionaire looking out for himself and his billionaire friends while trying to con the rest of us into thinking he cares about us and our kids’ futures.
Just what we don’t need more of.

I am worried
The May 7 front-page headline about the Primary Elections said it all: “Ramaswamy wins GOP nod for governor.”
The subhead could have been: “Trump darling now faces some Democrat.”
I worry The Columbus Dispatch will go the route of so much of the mainstream media and devote a majority of their attention to promoting Republican candidates in the upcoming election, sacrificing objectivity in the process.

Teachers change lives
This year, Teacher Appreciation Week was a chance to say thank you, reflect on what great teachers make possible, and think about who’ll step forward next.
We both joined Teach For America in 2024, committing to serve in Columbus classrooms. Each of us experienced the life-shaping power of educators who believed in us and helped us discover our potential. Katelin, who grew up navigating significant hearing loss, found in her teachers a steady source of support and high expectations that helped her thrive academically and graduate college. Aron, who immigrated from Mexico as a child, was guided by educators who embraced his cultural identity, encouraged his ambitions and helped him and his family navigate a new education system.
Those experiences inspired us to teach, and they continue to shape us today. As our time in the teaching corps comes to a close, we’ve seen firsthand how teaching transforms not only students, but also those who step into the classroom. Katelin will continue teaching in Columbus, while Aron will pursue graduate study as a Schwarzman Scholar, both influenced by what we learned from our students.
Teacher Appreciation Week reminds us that when students are supported to find their voice and imagine their future, anything is possible. At a time when many young people are searching for purpose, teaching offers a powerful way to make a difference right now. We’re grateful for the educators who opened doors for us, and we invite the next generation to join us in holding them open.
