Iowa wrestling rising redshirt junior Kale Petersen has entered the transfer portal.
An Iowa spokesperson confirmed Petersen’s entry on May 1, with the deadline for entries being the day prior on April 30. The Greene County alum is a three-time high school state champion who had a 135-6 record before college. In three years with Iowa, he owned a 26-9 record. Petersen was 5-5 in duals, with a 3-3 mark in Big Ten duals. He has competed at 125, 133 and 141 pounds during his college career. After redshirting as a true freshman, he’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.
Petersen has not made the postseason starting lineup for the Hawkeyes, but has started in many duals for Iowa the last three seasons. His pedigree coming out of high school and performances in college suggest he can be an NCAA qualifier-type of wrestler wherever he lands.
Petersen is Iowa’s second transfer portal departure, following Jordan Williams, who announced his entry on March 31.
