Iowa football sees slide in CBS Sports 1-136 rankings ahead of Cy-Hawk game

It was unlikely that the Iowa Hawkeyes were going to see a climb or jump of any sort in any rankings this week after a bit of a slog to take down UAlbany 34-7 in Week 1.

What is happening, though, is a slide for the Hawkeyes in some rankings across the nation, even though they did win and had things in hand for most of the second half.

Iowa remains unranked in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll and in the CBS Sports 1-136 rankings ahead of Week 2, the Hawkeyes dropped seven spots. Iowa fell from No. 30 to No. 37 with its win.

Alternatively, Iowa sees its in-state rival, the Iowa State Cyclones, with a rapid ascent in these rankings. The Cyclones, who are 2-0 after handling South Dakota with ease, jumped five spots and are inside the top 15 at No. 14 in the country.

The Hawkeyes will get their shot at the Cyclones and also have the chance to make a statement to the college football world this weekend. The Cy-Hawk game is set for this Saturday, Sep. 6, at 11 a.m. CT from Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa and will air on FOX.
