Roland-Story track and field athletes Taylor Rechkemmer and Tristen Crabbs were voted the Ames Tribune female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of May 17-23.
Rechkemmer won female Athlete of the Week with 77% of the vote.
She ran the decisive leg on Roland-Story’s 2A state champion shuttle hurdle relay on May 23 at the 2026 Iowa high school state track and field championships in Des Moines.
Rechkemmer put Roland-Story ahead to stay after running an outstanding third leg. The Norse won in 1:05.88.
Rechkemmer also took 22nd in the 100 hurdles prelims (16.91).
Crabbs earned male Athlete of the Week honors with 63% of the vote.
He placed in two events, and he nearly added a third during the state track and field championships last week.
Crabbs took seventh in the open 200 with a time of 22.11 and he just missed the top eight in the 100 with a ninth-place time of 11.18 in the prelims. Crabbs anchored Roland-Story to a fifth-place finish in the 4×100 relay with a time of 43.37.
