Ohio State athletics announced a massive deal with Chase Bank to have patches on all 36 teams, which surely will make many Notre Dame fans wonder if this could be the case with their favorite team.
The Irish currently do not have a corporate sponsor for its uniforms, but after seeing that OSU is getting almost $17 million-per-year, it would make plenty of sense for athletic director Pete Bevacqua to make some calls. As a college football traditionalist, seeing non-school patches on jersey’s isn’t the most appealing, but it is a sign of the times.
With players earning revenue sharing, anytime a school can bring in more money to offset the costs makes plenty of sense. Ohio State has paved the way for bigger teams to do it, and accomplish the feat by themselves as well. Monster Energy signed a deal with the whole Big 12 conference totaling around $20 million-per-year, which is a significantly different payout than what the Buckeyes have accomplished.
The standard has now been set by Ohio State, and it makes plenty of sense for Notre Dame to follow in their footsteps. The biggest question now is who is willing to partner with one of the biggest brands in college athletics and become Notre Dame’s jersey patch sponsor?
