A former running back for the Indianapolis Colts is reportedly signing with an AFC South rival.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ameer Abdullah is signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Former Colts RB Ameer Abdullah signs with Jaguars
Abdullah was signed to the Colts’ practice squad very early in the season. Then by mid-October, he was added to the 53-man roster.
As the season went on, Abdullah’s role increased, and he began sharing the RB2 snaps with Tyler Goodson or taking on that role on his own when Goodson was sidelined.
Abdullah also handled kick return duties without Anthony Gould. He averaged nearly 30 yards per return, according to PFF.
Colts’ backup RB role is up for grabs this summer
With Jonathan Taylor leading the way, the backup running back role is up for grabs this summer. Competing for those snaps will be second-year back DJ Giddens and rookie Seth McGowan.
The ability to contribute to the passing game, especially as a blocker, and on special teams, can be differentiators when it comes to determining who will win this job.
Also on the roster is Jordon Vaughn, a productive undrafted rookie.
