Colts' Steichen with injury updates on Alec Pierce, CJ Allen, others

Following Thursday night’s training camp practice, Indianapolis Colts’ head coach Shane Steichen provided a few injury updates.

Alec Pierce remains sidelined, recovering from offseason ankle surgery. He is progressing well, but Steichen does not have a timetable for his return. Pierce remains on the PUP list.

“No, not right now,” Steichen said when asked if he had any updates, via The Athletic’s James Boyd. “His rehab’s going great, I’ll say that. … I don’t have the timetable on his return, but he’s doing a hell of a job in his rehab process.”

Rookie linebacker CJ Allen was also absent from Thursday’s practice. He is dealing with a hamstring injury, said Steichen.

Allen missed the first few practices on the PUP list with a calf injury. In his place, we could continue to see a heavy rotation at linebacker, but Akeem Davis-Gaither and Bryce Boettcher are the likely candidates to play with the starters.

Hunter Wohler and Laquon Treadwell are both dealing with hamstring injuries as well.

Wohler had been taking the bulk of the starting reps next to Cam Bynum, while Treadwell, along with Ashton Dulin, were often starting at outside wide receiver with Pierce out. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine could get more work with the ones until Treadwell returns.

Steichen did not say when either Wohler or Treadwell could return.

Wide receiver Eli Pancol and defensive tackle Tim Smith were again sidelined.

Sauce Gardner (illness) and Derrick Nnadi (toe) did return to practice on Thursday, according to Jake Arthur of Roundtable Sports.
